This project began in 2005 as a vision of Delbert Blackburn, minister of The Jefferson Avenue
Church of Christ. Members of the Church, Wenonah Elementary School, and the Birmingham
Board of Education embraced the idea. The project was a sounding success in 2005, with parents,
teachers, board members, and members form the Board of Education in attendance

Children with physical disabilities are most often underserved especially during the holiday
season when toys are distributed. Most often their psychomotor skills are not developed to the
extent that will allow them to play with regular toys. Therefore, they are neglected. The goal of
this project is to provide children with toys and devices designed specifically to meet their needs.
